Kalrayan Hills

Kalrayan Hills are part of the Eastern Ghats and lie on the western side of the Kallakurichi Taluk. This area is spread over 600 sq. kms with the height ranging from 1,000 ft to 3,800 ft above sea level.

The history of Kalrayan Hills runs back to the time of Krishna Devarayar, the Emperor of Vijayanagar kingdom. The emperor Krishna Devarayar gave the tribes the rights to enjoy this land but imposed many taxes on them. Also, it is said that warriors belonging to ‘KARALAR’ community had come from Kanchipuram and settled in the Kalrayan Hills. After a while, they overrode the tribes known as ‘Vedars’ (hunters) and married their wives.

Vast areas of this hill range are still unexplored and untouched except for a few isolated tribal settlements. This trek poses quite a few unique opportunities to the participants.
